Christmas Plays This Year

By Yvonne Brixey

The Christmas season is all about family, friends and doing good for those who are less fortunate. A great way to spend time with those you love, and help those in your neighborhood, is to attend a local Christmas play, or even put on your own Christmas play for those in your community.

There may be some hidden talent among those you see everyday. A great way to learn about your loved ones and foster those hidden talents is to put on a Christmas play, or see them in a local Christmas play put on by the high school, middle school or church group.

There may even be some of your close friends or family members in the cast of the Christmas play. If you have a child or multiple children in a local school Christmas play, this would be a great time to bring the whole family together and attend the play. That way you are spending time as a family, supporting your child and supporting the community and school as well. That is what Christmas spirit is all about.

There are also many other different kinds of Christmas plays and different performances during this time of the year. There may be piano recitals, vocal recitals, orchestra performances and of course a Christmas play or two. If you are not sure where to find out about a Christmas play in your area, you can do a search online, look at a community center or ask around. There also could be flyers posted at different stores or bulletin boards around the community.

A professional performance is also a great option . If you have young children, you need to be sure that you check the age limit or a Christmas play before you buy the tickets, because a lot of places require that children be older than 8 years old before they can attend. In a professional Christmas play, the set, cast and music or script will be more professional than a children's play or community center play.

If you prefer to put together and perform your own Christmas play, that is also an option. The hardest part of this decision is find enough cast members. If you have a large family, even extended family, then they may be willing to be your cast. If they aren't, then ask the local school and see if there is a class that could help you. Another option to see if those in your neighborhood or your friends will be the cast in your Christmas play.

Something that might be a bonus to attend a Christmas play is that it gives your children and family exposure to the arts. In the world today, many children have not been exposed to the arts and are not aware of that entire world or culture. Attending a Christmas play with them will expose them to that lifestyle and give then a feel for the Christmas season.

Christmas is a great time of year to get your family together and attend a Christmas play! Your children will appreciate it and your family will be in the Christmas spirit. Christmas Play
