Bunk Beds - Safety Checklist When Shopping

Just because Bunkbeds look great doesn't mean that they will be safe and secure and built with quality materials and craftsmanship. Naturally, it is our children that will be sleeping and playing on them so you need to educate yourself on what to look for.

The most critical factor that you have to decide while shopping bunk beds is the model of the bed. Since you are buying it for kids, you have to decide whether you need to buy a bunk, loft, twin, wood or metal bed. After deciding on the model of bunk bed, you have to check for the safety measures in the bunk bed. Adhere to the following safety check list before you buy the bunk bed.

1) Find a dealer you can trust. - Make sure they stand behind their products and can answer any questions regarding the safety of the bed.

2) Before you shop for bunk beds, check the amount of weight that the bunk bed can hold. However, if you choose to buy an dissembled bunk bed, then you have to test the weight bearing capacity soon after assembling it.

3) It is essential to find whether the bottom part of the bed frame is capable of holding the box spring mattress. Because the box spring mattress has to be kept under the child's regular mattress for the added comfort and relaxation. Make sure that the bunk beds have a wooden support in order to carry the mattress.

4) Ensure that the bunk beds consists ample space on the bottom so that kids can sleep with comfort. This way the kids need not reach the top bunk to play as it is pretty riskier to play on the top.

5) Ensure that the bunk bed has enough safety information with relevant safety stickers on it.

6) It is important to shop only those bunk beds that are strong and made of high quality bedding. You can test the sturdiness of the bed by shaking it. The bunk beds are often made out of solid wood or particle wood. Buy only those beds that are made out of solid wood; because solid woods are renowned for its quality.

7) Check for the edges and corners of the bunk bed. Refrain from buying those beds that have sharp ends, because these can be hazardous to kids.

8) The ladder should be securely attached and be wide enough for your child to climb. The ladder should also not be removable by children. Moreover, make sure the rungs on the ladder are properly spaced; they should not have to take a large step up to step on the next rung.

9) Buy only those bunk beds that have safety railings on all sides. Also, make sure that the railings are tight and cannot be removed by the kids. Check whether the bed has any fastening device or pressure lifting device that will help you to detach the railings whenever needed.

Check for the aforesaid tips while shopping bunk beds. This way you can buy the safest bed for your kids to sleep and play.
