Hindi movie industry is another name for the movie industry, which produces a lot of Hindi movies every year. In India, Bollywood churns out the maximum number of films. Some well known Hindi movies with its rich content have made its presence felt internationally by getting selected in the Academy Award for the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
One will always remember Mother India because of its rich content. The story of this film is written by Mehboob Khan and is a remake of his 1940 movie Aurat. The central character in this movie is a poor village woman with many principles and a strong mind. But, to keep her word to the landlord, in the end she murders her son. Released in the year 1988, this film depicted the lives of a lot of street children living in Bombay (now Mumbai). This movie received several awards from national and international movie festivals. Produced in 2001, the movie has the backdrop of Victorian age, where the British Government were controlling India. Lagaan is about the story of a village, which come together to voice out their protest against the increase in taxation by the British Government. This Ashutosh Gowariker film was completed with 250 million rupees, which featured British actors as well.
Water, made by Deepa Mehta, a woman filmmaker born in India, is the 4th movie to be selected for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars.
